it was all a dream.

edwin bolta is a multidisciplinary artist, director, and creative consultant based in brooklyn, new york. his practice is rooted in the fusion of painting, sculpture, digital animation, sound, and design—works that blur the edges of mediums while building a language that is both personal and collective.

born to puerto rican and german parents, edwin’s work draws on a hybrid cultural inheritance to explore identity, community, and the surreal. described as future folk art, his practice folds together handmade craft and digital experimentation: canvas paintings re-imagined as claymation, and frames that carry images into sculptural form.

through bolta fabrications, edwin creates his original artworks—paintings, prints, sculptures, sound works as well as collaborative projects. most recently, this includes a series of handmade frames with oldjoy that turn prints into wood sculptures.

in parallel, edwin has expanded into house of building a bauhaus-inspired ecosystem spanning a talk show, record label, and design studio. with house of building, he seeks to create not just artworks but entire environments where visual, sonic, and architectural ideas converge.

his themes often circle domestic intimacy, cultural crossings, and resilience. recurring motifs include edwin’s 👁️‍🗨️, magenta noses, and figures in dialogue—symbols that build a shared visual language. influences run wide: picasso’s relentless reinvention, philip guston’s blunt honesty, yoshitomo nara’s sharp tenderness, noguchi’s merging of form and function.

edwin’s collaborations with brands in fashion, health, and beauty have sharpened his ability to translate complex ideas into compelling visuals. yet his core remains committed to community, mental health, and the preservation of the handmade in an age of automation: “in a world of ai art edwin wanted to create something as surreal yet safe yet off but created by humans for humans”.

his recent exhibitions—including strangers in paradise, lost in the gathering, and path, weg, camino—map a trajectory of cultural inquiry and personal evolution. as he prepares his for his next collections of work across visual art, music, and collaborative design, edwin bolta continues to shape BOLTA FABRICATIONS + HOUSE OF BUILDING into a bridge: between mediums, between cultures, between the individual and the collective.
