Edwin bolta artist/director

edwin bolta is a multidisciplinary artist and director based in brooklyn, new york. drawing on his puerto rican and german american heritage, his work explores identity, mental health, community, and domestic life through painting, sculpture, animation, sound, and design.

his future folk language combines work made by hand with digital experimentation. on august 28, 2026, bolta formalized emotectonics as a framework for his evolving practice, exploring how feeling takes shape through bodies, materials, sound, and inhabited space. guided by the principle “form follows feeling,” emotectonics builds on ideas already present throughout his earlier work. inverted eyes, magenta triangle noses, figures within figures, and forms combining anatomy and architecture recur throughout a practice that holds joy and discomfort together.

through bolta fabrications, he creates original artworks, objects, and collaborations, including sculptural frames developed with oldjoy.

house of building, his brooklyn home and studio, draws on the bauhaus ambition to bring art, craft, and everyday life together. it functions as an environment for art, music, design, exhibitions, experimentation, and gathering. together, bolta fabrications and house of building reflect his commitment to community, making things by hand, and creating work by humans for humans.
